Are you looking to start a blog business working from home?

Are you willing to make $10,000+ per month?

Note: Read the article carefully so you will not miss a single tip that can stop you from making money.

I started my blogging career after getting frustrated with my school life.

When I was in 8th standard, I was feeling stuck in school and since then I started looking for something exciting, and where I can feel the work and play with it, so I don’t feel bore while working or learning.

Once you love what you do whether it is professional or personal, it will be like you are playing with it and the work will be fun and easy. And I can say everyone does enjoy while playing.

I didn’t know anything about blogging at that time when I started my career.

I don’t have friends or anyone whom I can ask, please tell me what WordPress is or
how I can start blogging or
what things required to start my blog or
how much it will cost to start a blogging journey or
what is the expenditure of the first six months or

how many months I have to wait to make my first $1? So many questions and no one to answer sounds very alone and sad😢 right?

I started a blog named Blogremark where I thought I will write articles on technology then I started Gadgetsmonk in which I am going to write about trending gadgets after I started a health blog and there are a couple of more blogs which I don’t want to share as they don’t even last for few days.

I failed in all five blogs.

Just one: I am writing the articles which I was not interested in, I was writing because of money.

But still, I was happy as you can see me.

Me and my cousin. Enjoying family dinner at her home.

Let’s get back to work. 😉

The biggest lesson for me and which you can prevent, never start blogging if you are doing because of money.

Then, I left my blogging career and decided to start something else because I thought blogging is not made for me.

I have done a lot of wrong things while blogging and wasted tons of money on worthless products or themes or plugins in just testing 😪.

But I am happy because I learned from my failure and that’s the reason now I am standing on my own and making good money.

I started working as a freelancer and doing well in designing blogs, websites, E-commerce stores for my clients and learned amazing things and done a lot of solo projects.

Finally now (2019) is a good time to start a new blog and I am fully boosted.

What things changed?

Now, I know WordPress better, now I have a topic in which I want to teach, not for money 😁. I know how to get traffic from social media(Pinterest).

I purchased hosting from Bluehost on a Special Discount for 1 year in which I got a free domain and they secured my blog using their HTTPS for free.

Finally, I started a new blog Thirstywell back in November 2019.

Start A Blog
Thirsty Well Home Screen

After taking hosting from Bluehost, I installed WordPress and set up WordPress, theme, plugins, and started writing articles.

This article is going to long as I am going to teach you every point in deep so you can save/pin/bookmark it and complete it whenever you are free.

Disclosure: We are an affiliate to Bluehost, which means we may receive a small commission if you purchase through our link but at no additional cost to you. We have a special discount only for our readers. Read our Disclosure for more info.

Here’s an overview of the steps that I going to teach and to create a successful blog:

Total Time: 20 mins

  • Step 1: Choose The Blog Niche Which You Are Interested In
  • Step 2: Set Up Your Blog
  • Step 3: Become A WordPress Guru
  • Step 4: Choose A Great WordPress Theme To Make A Successful Blog
  • Step 5: Install Recommended And Useful Plugins
  • Step 6: Make Your Divi Theme Ready To Use
  • Step 7: Your Blog Is Waiting To Write The First Article
  • Step 8: Join Blogging Community And Get New Ideas

Take a deep breath. You are just 20 mins away to start your blogging career successfully.

Welcome to Thirstywell. My name is Lovish Gulati. Let’s start from scratch.

Step 1: Choose The Blog Niche Which You Are Interested In

Choosing a blog topic can be a time taking and sometimes boring, but this is the first step, and you have to be careful while choosing the niche.

Please do not choose the blog topic because you saw that your friend is making money in it, or you saw someone on the internet that he or she is making money.

Your blog topic should be something that you can understand your audience and provide them content they are genuinely looking for.

Else you can find the crap or outdated content anywhere on the internet.

Some Interesting blog topics you can find below and you can proceed with one of them:

  • Self-improvement/Self-Hypnosis
  • Health & Fitness for Busy People
  • Recipes for couples without children
  • How to Travel on a Budget (Best hotel deals. Car rental. Trip advice.)
  • Parenting
  • DIY and Crafts
  • Hamburgers
  • Indie Video Game Development
  • Finance
  • Home Decor
  • Beauty and Fashion Blog
  • Making Money Online
  • Careers vs job: following your passion
  • Web or Graphic Designing Education
  • Technology
  • Pets Feeding

These are some most popular blog niche you can choose from and start your successful blog but do not go for an uninterested niche; otherwise, it will be significant 👎 for you.

There are three blog topics which I personally recommend as these three will be in lead in 2020:

Travel – The youth is focusing on traveling more nowadays and definitely, they want information about cheap and best hotels or hostels, places to visit and there is much more on travel.

Difficulty: Easy

Make Money Online – In 2020 no one wants a 9-5 job and even school student wants to earn his or her pocket money instead of taking from their parents.

Difficulty: Moderate

Health & Fitness: Noone is taking care of their health because everyone is busy earning money eating fast food. This topic is having very potential.

Difficulty: Easy

All of these three topics having high potential. Don’t what for that one day just set your mind and go for it.

As we all know there are two words that stop us to become a millionaire, “What If”.

What If I fail in my blogging journey?
What If I lose my money?

There are so many WHAT IF’s but you have to focus on “if they can do I can too”.

And trust me when I say anyone can do that means you can too.

Step 2: Set Up Your Blog

Now we are at step two but it’s not a celebration time as we are 6 steps away to celebrate our success.

You will need two things before you can start your blog setting:

I personally use Bluehost for my personal websites, blogs and as well as I recommended to all my clients because Bluehost is having 24/7 support available and they use SSD which is 4x faster than normal HDD hosting.

You can have my words you will never face downtime on your blog (scheduled maintenance not included).

  1. Once you reach the Bluehost discount page click on the Get Started and it will take you to choose the plan.
Bluehost home
Thirsty Well Special Offer. Start today! There is no tomorrow!

2. Now if you see the price is changed to $2.95/mo but you don’t have to worry as the next page will clear all your doubts about pricing.

The basic plan of Bluehost is very powerful and fulfills your blog requirement.

Bluehost Pricing Plans.

3. Just write the domain name which you already have in your mind and proceed to next.

Bluehost Domain

4. As you can see we got a green signal on our domain registration. If your domain is available in .com extension it will take you to account information.

Else you will have to choose a different name or different extension.

Now, fill the information.

Note: Check your e-mail twice before proceeding.

5. I will suggest you, go for the 36-month plan as you will have to pay only $2.95/month and in total $106.20.

Else if you go for the 24-month plan then pricing will be $3.95/month and the total will be $94.80.

The least expensive plan is a 12-month plan in which you have to pay $4.95/month which will be $59.40 in total.

You are getting free domain registration for the first year as I already told you.

SSL- Secure Sockets Layer will secure your blog and prevent hacking or any hijacking activities.

6. Below as you can see in the image, there are few optional extras in which you can tick and get for your hosting.

Let me explain!

Domain Privacy + Protection: This is very important as this will private your account information and no can secretly book your domain.

Uncheck all other, as we will use the WordPress plugin for that purpose.

7. Now you have to pay for the hosting, you can use the credit card and don’t worry it is totally safe to use and there is 30 days refund policy by Bluehost.

Ohh I just checked 5 mins are over and guess what? Our blog is done too 😊. Just a few points left. Let’s make it faster and then we will move to step 3.

Now is the time to choose a password to secure your Bluehost account, so no one can access your content. And of course, remember the password for later use. 😊

After you choose the password, skip everything asked by Bluehost like theme selection or site title or tag line.

Once you reach the below image, now is the time we have to set up WordPress, and then we can start installing Divi theme and plugins.

Step 3: Become A WordPress Guru

Are you ready to become a WordPress hero? I know! I know! Everyone says Yesssssss.

Let’s start by creating pages.

  1. Navigate to pages and then click on add new > name the page “Home”.

Once you create the home page, the same procedure as for other pages like about, contact me, blog, etc.

2. Navigate to Settings > Reading. You will find your homepage displays, choose the second option A static page and then choose Home in the dropdown of the homepage.

3. Let’s set the permalink now.

The permalinks are those links that you find after the domain name suppose my domain is So the “how-to-start-a-blog-in-2020” is your permalink.

Let’s configure it. Navigate to Settings > Permalinks. Choose the option, Post name, as shown in the image below.

4. For European countries, the law says you should have a privacy policy page on your blog, or else your blog will be blacklisted in google or any other search engine.

I will suggest you create one whether you live in Europe or any continent in the world.

To create the Privacy Policy page, navigate to pages > add new.

After you create a privacy policy page, head towards Settings > Privacy.

Just use the privacy policy page using the drop-down, as shown in the image below.

5. Now we are going to set up the menu for the blog.

Navigate to appearance > Menu.

You will find a link to create a new menu, click on it, and you will be asked for the name of your menu. You can name it “Primary Menu” as we will be using this as our main primary menu.

Once you name your menu, below, you will find the menu settings, choose the primary menu.

Import all the pages or categories you want in your primary menu. Please find below the image for the right settings.

6. Now let’s set up your profile so everyone can know about you as an author.

For that, Navigate to Users > Your Profile. Fill all the details, such as your name and social media, as you can see in the image below.

Most important is you have to write 2-3 lines about yourself in the Biographical Info. If you see the image below, I have already written the bio.

7. Let’s create a few categories for your blog so it will be easy to categories your articles.

Navigate to Posts > Categories.

You can create categories as well as subcategories.

First, create a category, and once you start building the second category which you want to be a subcategory, choose the parent category in the drop-down.

Hurrah! You are now a WordPress Guru. I want to congratulate you on your great success.

We are just 5 steps away to launch our successful blog.

WordPress is not limited. It has so many options to explore, and I teach you the essential settings.

Before we jump into step 4, I want to tell you one essential advice or a tip for you. Do not ever use a stock image on your blog; otherwise, you will not earn a single dollar from Google Adsense.

Read the whole article Don’t Use Stock Images (Pexels, Pixabay, Freepik) To Avoid Adsense Rejection In Your New Blog.

Step 4: Choose A Great WordPress Theme To Make A Successful Blog

There are thousands of free themes available in directory.

The question arises, are all of the theme SEO optimized?

All of them ready for mobile devices?

All of them are Speed perfect?

The answer is NO.

It would be best if you were precise while choosing the theme.

The theme is the only thing if you change in the future it can destroy all your blog look or can affect your blog traffic or increase the bounce rate.

To avoid all of these disasters, choose a perfect theme that gives you all the features in one.

I have a lot of experience in blogging and in designing the blogs, but still, if you ask me to create a blog using code, I will say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Trust me in 2020; this is possible to create a blogging website without writing a single of code.

You will be using drag and drop features to design your blog and yes, of course, 100% responsive.

If I tell you the #1 free theme for those who don’t have an extra $50 to $100, don’t need to worry you got a free theme as well Phlox.

We all know free things have their limitations. No doubt you may face problems, and you will not get any premium support for the theme.

But ya, you can play around for a month or so on.

You can test things to know how WordPress works or how to tackle problems that come while you walk on the blogging road.

Why Do you need a premium theme?

As the word states ‘premium’ – you will get premium things in the theme.

Your premium theme is optimized for SEO and 100% responsive for all devices ( Mobile, Tablet, Desktop, Big Screens).

If you face any problem in your theme, it can be anything, for example, your theme is not working as it should be, you have to send a mail to the theme owner and rest they will take care.

Now, if I introduce the #1 paid theme for WordPress blogging – Divi, get 10% OFF using my unique link.

You won’t believe, I suggested the Divi theme to all my clients and students and guess what? I got 100% happy faces. 😊

Okay! Okay! I know that it is a paid theme and you might be thinking who will invest $80 to get this theme. Let me tell you they have no questions asked, 30 days refund policy.

Do you still think taking a paid theme is not worth it?

If you design your blog using a free theme, it can take up to 5-10 hours to design a premium look page, but if you use the Divi theme, it can save your hours and do the work in 30 mins to 1 hour.

And I am not yet over. You will get three plugins and 85+ other themes that you can use in just $80. Don’t you think it’s the best theme for your blogging career?

I asked for help from elegant themes, and they solved it in just a few hours. So I am 100% satisfied with their customer support. Don’t believe me? Check their Trustpilot profile.

I can say now you are convinced and if you want to know more about the Divi theme check Elegantthemes.

Try their #1 visual builder for free now.

How To Upload the Divi theme?

You have to download the theme from the Elegantthemes server.

Once you have the downloaded file, you have to navigate to Appearance > Themes.

Click on add new theme, after that click on upload new and select the Divi theme in .zip format.

Boom! you just installed the Divi theme, now click on activate, and that’s it.

Step 4: Install Recommended And Useful Plugins

There are thousands of free and paid plugins in the WordPress directory. I am going to install only those which are necessary for your blog.

Before diving into plugins installation, let me give you an overview of what are plugins and why they are essential for blogging?

What are plugins?

I will be using an example to make it easy for you to understand.

For example: in real life, you use a car or a bus or a train to travel from one place to another. You use to make your life easier, right?

In the above example, the car and the bus and the train is a plugin, and your life is WordPress.

2nd example: You use mobile to communicate with another person, why don’t you go to that person and deliver your message? It’s because you want life more straightforward and comfortable, right?

Here, mobile is a plugin that makes life easier.

The same is in WordPress. We use plugins to enhance WordPress features or to make WordPress more comfortable to use and more understandable.

How To Install WordPress Plugin?

It is very easy to install a plugin in WordPress.

Hover to Plugins > Add new. Check the below image.

I am going to share with you the list of plugins that are useful for blogging and a WordPress blog.

You need to type the name of the WordPress plugin in the search box after that install and activate it.

Let’s install our first plugin so I can show you how to install and activate it, and after that, I will provide you with the list of plugins you can install on your WordPress.

WP Fastest Cache

It’s the best free WordPress cache plugin available in the WordPress directory.

And if I talk about a paid plugin, there is only one that WP Rocket. WP Rocket is the number one paid cache plugin, and you need to install and activate, you will see an instant change in load time.

You can check your blog report on GTmetrix. Just type the URL and choose the location of the server.

Ok, now let’s install the free WP Fastest cache.

Click on install now. It will start installing once you hit the button.

Then, it would be best if you hit the same button once more as it will activate the plugin.

That’s it. You just installed your first plugin in WordPress. 😍

Let’s configure the plugin.

Please check the image to configure the plugin.

List of plugins, you have to install on your blog website.

Akismet Anti-Spam – It’s a great plugin that filters the comment and saves your blog from spam comments.

Google Site Kit – It’s an official plugin by google, which connects your blog to Adsense, search console, analytics, and much more. It is highly recommended. It saves your time from setting up code.

WP Forms – It can be used for the contact form for your contact page, and there is much more (depends on your requirement).

Some Optional Plugins

  • WP File Manager

  • Really Simple SSL

That’s it in this step. You have installed all the recommended plugins, and as per your requirement, you can find more plugins in the WordPress directory.

All the plugins are free in the WordPress directory unless you want their pro features.

Step 6: Make Your Divi Theme Ready To Use

Divi theme is as simple as you make a cup of coffee. Don’t say making coffee is hard 😂.

Let’s set up the Divi theme quickly.

Start by the General tab. Just use my settings on your Divi theme, as shown in the image.

  1. Navigate to Divi > Theme Options.
  2. Go to the General tab.
  3. Upload your logo by clicking the upload button, and the dimension of the logo should be 186px x 86px.
  4. Fixed Navigation Bar: If you want the primary navigation bar to be sticky while you scroll down to the blog, make sure it should be enabled. For SEO purposes, I will recommend, enable it.
  5. According to the logo colors, you can change the default color palette. It will help you to choose the color once you start designing the blog quickly.
  6. If you want your post’s first image as a featured image, so make sure this option should be enabled. But mostly we need a different picture, so disable it.
  7. You can choose the sidebar location, and it can be the right side or left side. I prefer the right side.
  8. If you want to use Divi map in your blog, then make sure you generate a Google API key and then insert it here.
  9. It’s time to enable social media profiles.
  10. All the links go here for FB or Google+ or Twitter etc.
  11. To make your Divi theme work smooth, make sure all the options should enable.
  12. It will make your theme lightweight so it can load faster on slow internet devices.
  13. Push the save changes button, and you’re done.

Insert Username & API Key For Future Updates

To get the latest updates from Elegantthemes, make sure you insert the username and API key, as shown in the image below.

You can find your username and API key in my-account once you login to Elegantthemes.

Once you are done, click on save changes.

Hurrah! We just completed our 6th step. Congrats.

Now we are just two steps away to launch our blog successfully.

If you want to skip all the above 6 steps, you can purchase my A profitable blog design.

Step 7: Your Blog Is Waiting To Write The First Article

Now, once you finish step 6. I know what comes in your mind,

What should my first article be about?

It should be a welcome article, welcome to all your students, writes something about yourself, in which topic you are going to write posts.

You can write anything in your first post but keeping it, introducing which I recommend to all my students.

To create a new post, hover to Posts > Add New.

Let’s start by writing a title for your article.

The first screen should be as you can see in the image above.

You can change the title any time you want, so don’t overthink it.

Hi Guys, my name is [Your Name], and welcome to my [Blog]. Let me tell you a bit about myself, and from the next article, I will be your health guide. Sounds Good😊?

Use the default editor, not the Divi visual builder, for your blog posts.

Now, if you need to add a link to your post or if you need to add an image to your post, hit enter in your keyboard at the left side you will find a + button click on it and you will find so many modules.

In the image above, on the left side red rectangle, you can see there is a + icon – that is for modules.

On the right side, you will find three icons, and they can be different in your blog as per your usage of that particular module. The most used module will be highlighted there.

If you want to make a text into a link, select the text and choose the link option from the block bar. Check image.

Select the text > navigate to link icon > paste the link > use arrow icon if you want the link to open in new tab > hit enter icon.

How To Publish Your Blog Post

While you are writing a post, it will remain in draft mode.

Either you can schedule your post on a later date at a particular time, or you can publish your post immediately. It depends on you.

Once you are done writing the post and done with edits, click on the publish button and your post will be live and public.

After you publish the article, you found there are some changes left, don’t worry, you can make changes even your article is published, or even you can make it back in draft mode.

WordPress Is Awesome.

Step 8: Join Blogging Community And Get New Ideas

I know how it feels to be alone on a road that is new for me.

When I started, I felt so lonely because if any problem comes, I have to do it alone because I don’t know some communities can help me out in every question.

But you are not alone, join my FB group and ask me any question there and I will answer all of your questions. If by any chance, I am not available, more people can help you.

Thirstywell Facebook Group.

There are other groups as well in Facebook. You can join them and gain knowledge about blogging.

Blogging is easy but for those who want to learn about blogging and interested in helping people. Otherwise, everyone was doing blogging, including Mark Zuckerberg😂.

Now you have completed all the steps, and now is the time for celebration.🥳🎉

I don’t know about you, but I am sure that now you can start a successful blog. I am 100% confident.

I hope you like the 8 steps: how to start a blog guide. If you have any questions, write to me below, and I will reply as I got from others.

See you in the next post.

  1. I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your site?

Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way
of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?

    • Hello Thirsty Well User, I appreciate what you have written. Thanks for your input and suggestion on how can I improve the layout of the blog. I will try to improve it for sure. Thanks a lot.

  2. I’m just commenting to make you be aware of of the exceptional discovery my child developed checking the blog.
She picked up numerous pieces, including what it’s like to have a wonderful coaching spirit to let certain people clearly grasp a number of hard to do subject matter.
You truly exceeded people’s expected results. Thanks for imparting such valuable, dependable, educational and in addition cool thoughts on the topic.
